Project Background

The River Revitalization Plan is and action plan to guide the revitalization of the river corridor through the Town of Truckee. Ensuring the future of the Truckee River is a refelction of the community is high priority and community involvement is esential to accomplishing this. A River Revitalization Steering Committee is a diverse group of 18 local community members, appointed by the Town, who are dedicated to celebrating and honoring the river by creating an action plan for:

  • Revitalizing lands around the river.
  • Restoring environmental degradation, and mitigating current impacts.
  • Providing access and opportunity to celebrate the river as the core of the community.

We need YOUR help! This is an opportunity for the community to take stock of what we want the area to be and to help shape the overall vision and goals for the downtown river corridor area.

Three “themes” have been developed Restore, Revitalize, Reimagine. We need your input on the vision, opportunities, and challenges related to each topic.

  • Restore: Relates to river health and access. The goal is to have a thriving ecosystem including protected water quality, restored riparian zones and habitats for fish and wildlife, abundance of native plant species and appropriate recreation access.
  • Revive: Involves community vitality and connectivity. The draft vision is for a connected, eclectic mix of thriving local businesses and housing with a mixed use of commercial, residential, light industrial, open space, public places, sidewalks, and bike paths.
  • Reimagine: Is all about what it feels and looks like in the river corridor – the vibe and character of the place. To desire is to have an authentic, attractive place that honors Truckee’s history: a mix of modern and historic, natural and built, a love of place and respect for "Truckee Funk".
